Dog Friendly Places In Santa Monica, Venice and Marina del Rey

Dana Ehrlich - Westside Short SalesI was out for my morning walk with my Toy Poodle, Lucy, yesterday. As we were approaching my neighborhood park- Santa Monica's Ozone Park, we were rushed by the most adorable Terrier puppy named Wallace. Lucy, as any social canine would do, started a playful dash & dart game with Wallace. She almost choked herself. I knew she was dying to run and chase with Wallace, so I unclipped her leash. My friend, neighbor (and newest client), Anthony approached with his pooch, Nikko, and he proceeded to let Nikko off his leash.

In a flash, suddenly there was an Animal Control truck up on the grass right along with us. Yes...we were all cited for having our dogs off leash. I must say, I learned a really good lesson, but it makes me sad that I can't let me dog run free in my own neighborhood park. But I will say, the city of Santa Monica has done a fantastic job in making several local parks designated Dog Parks. As long as your dog is licensed in the city of Santa Monica, your dog is welcome at any of the following locations: Joceyln Park Licensed Santa Monica Dogs may use this park leashless from 6 a.m.-9 a.m. & 6 p.m. - 10 p.m.; on 7th Street @ Kensington Road. 310/393-9975. Pacific Park Located at Pacific & Main, 0.42 acres, off-leash dog area. Airport Park This is Santa Monica's newest pride and joy. It's a multi-tiered park where the dogs can run like crazy. Tip: bring sunscreen and a hat...there's almost ZERO shade! Located on Airport Avenue Centinela Avenue. Venice also has dog parks: Venice Dog Park Westminster Off-Leash Park 1234 Pacific Ave. This park has a very information website where you can learn everything about their rules and regs. Click here to check it out. Marina del Rey Dog Park Glen Alla Park 4601 Alla Rd. This is an unofficial dog park..shhhh.
